Puffins!

Tonight we stay at Vik campsite. We have read that there are many nesting cliffs nearby so Michal and I decided to go Dyrholaey, an area nearby (10-15km west from the campsite). Birds were already seen from the town - hundreds of thousands flew above it making unbelievable noise, but that was not the species we were looking for...

As soon as we reached the beach in Dyrholaey, we spotted a few puffins sitting on a cliff. They were going back and forth to the sea, apparently searching for supper ingredients. As it was getting dark and puffins were too high to take a good photo of them, we just photographed the ocean and magnificent rocks nearby and went back.

In the morning:
As Dyrholaey was next to our way West, we went there once again. As we got out of our car, we could see quite a lot of people around but there was a strange silence amongst them. We approached the cliff and saw it: THOUSANDS of puffins were just sitting there, busy with their morning habits. People tried to be as silent as possible but the birds did not seem to be shy at all - some of them allowed us to be as close as 0.5m or so! Of course, you cannot touch them, they would fly away but if you have a camera... you can sit there for hours.
