We got up early in the morning as we had a reservation for whale watching at 9:00. Is booking necessary? Not really but:
- yesterday a guy at ticket center told us the 10:00 cruise is fully booked,
- when there's a queue for tickets, people who have a reservation are served first. We were there at 8:50 and there was long queue. At 9, they asked people who didn't have a reservation to wait for us to get our tickets,
- a reservation is free, you don't even need to send them credit card number,

A viking-looking guide welcomed us on the board and gave us useful advice, taught how to understand the directions when he spots a whale and asked everyone to have their eyes wide open. After 10 or 15 minutes we saw the first one: it was a minke whale going North on our right side. As it was going quite fast and it only surfaced 3-4 times before diving again, we gave up after 4 or 5 trials. Then there was an hour or even longer period with we-keep-on-searching-s and oh-there-there-I've-just-seen-one-s. We went to the west side of the fiord, where another whale watching ship apparently had something because it was floating in one place. After a few minutes we saw a few fountains of water right next to the other board, there was also a dorsal fin visible! Oh, what would we give to be on the other board... But wait, there's something near us as well. Hooray, a humpback! I even know his name: Connie. The captain who was steering next to me told me he called him Connie which is a short for Silicon, and that's because of little things on his back fin that look like little bubbles made of botox. What a story! The captain was very friendly and talkative and he joked that there must have been many pregnant women on the board (the ocean wasn't calm, it was only one day after a storm, and many people were... well, they just felt bad). We hunted the whale for half an hour or so and TWICE it swam 5 meters from the ship. Beautiful animals. If it cost a bit less, I would go there every week. 50 euros for 3-hour cruise is a lot of money for me.
